In April 2025, employees of the National Security Committee, in coordination with the prosecutor's office in Astana, Aktobe, Turkestan, and Abai regions, thwarted the activities of religious radicals, according to Zakon.kz. 

Four Kazakhstani citizens, one of whom was a former convict, were detained on suspicion of promoting terrorism and inciting religious hatred, including through social media. 

Material evidence was seized during searches of their homes. Pre-trial investigations are underway under Articles 174 and 256 of the Criminal Code. The NSC did not provide any further details, citing the secrecy of the investigation.
