Ten people were killed in a suicide bombing in Somalia.
At least 10 people were killed in the Somali capital Mogadishu in an explosion carried out by a suicide bomber, Reuters reports, citing eyewitnesses.
The attack took place during the registration of new recruits at the Damaniyo military base, according to vedomosti. The young men were lined up at the gate of the base when the attacker detonated the explosive device, eyewitnesses said. One of them said that the man got out of a tuk-tuk, “ran into the queue and then blew himself up.”
A military hospital told Reuters that 30 wounded men were brought in after the attack, and six more died at the scene after the explosion. The site of the attack has been cordoned off, and no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
A similar incident occurred in Somalia in 2023. At that time, 25 soldiers were killed in an explosion at the Jale-Siyad base, Reuters reports. It is noted that today's attack followed the killing of Colonel Abdirahman Hujale on May 17 amid reports of militants from the Al-Shabaab group infiltrating the country's government forces.
