Sentenced to 17 years: terrorist accomplice detained in Omsk

The Novosibirsk District Military Court has convicted one of the members of an interregional terrorist group exposed by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB).

During the investigation, it was discovered that the group consisted of individuals from Central Asian countries residing in Omsk and Novosibirsk. The members of the group were in contact with a foreign terrorist wanted by Interpol, a member of the Katiba Tawhid wal Jihad organization.

“In addition, these citizens studied methods of manufacturing improvised explosive devices and underwent training in mining and explosives via the Internet in order to leave Russia to join the ranks of Islamic terrorists,” said Irina Rusnak, official representative of the FSB in the Omsk region.

One of the members of the criminal group was found guilty of aiding and abetting terrorist activities, attempting to commit a terrorist crime, and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. The man was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony.

The second defendant in the case is awaiting a court decision.
