According to officials, an Indian serviceman was killed on Thursday during a fierce gun battle with militants in Kashmir, the Xinhua news agency reported.

The clash took place in the Singhpora-Chatru area of Kistwar district, about 200 km southeast of Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir.

Last week, six militants were killed in two separate gun battles with government troops in the region.
