US President Donald Trump intends to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

This was announced in Damascus by Tom Barak, the US special representative for Syria, according to Syria TV.

According to him, the main goal of the US administration is to “expand the rights and capabilities of the current government” in Syria. Referring to Syria's relations with Israel, he described them as a “solvable problem” and expressed support for dialogue between the countries.

According to Al-Ikhbariya TV, the US special representative was earlier received at the People's Palace in Damascus by Syrian transitional president Ahmed al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaybani.

On Thursday morning, a ceremony was held in Damascus to mark the opening of the US ambassador's residence in Damascus after a 13-year hiatus, signaling the return of the American diplomatic mission to Syria.
