Hundreds of militants fr om the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin attacked government forces in the vicinity of Diapo, according to the Telegram channel Directorate 4.

The jihadists quickly broke the military's resistance and advanced into the city, wh ere they targeted shops, hospitals, and administrative buildings. The terrorists freed dozens of prisoners from the prison and destroyed telecommunications equipment to prevent the authorities from calling for reinforcements and reporting on the attackers' movements. The militants seized a large amount of weapons and equipment. There is no accurate information on the number of victims of the attack yet.

This is the second major jihadist attack in Burkina Faso in May. Earlier, terrorists managed to capture the city of Djibo.
