The current head of the Syrian government and leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Ahmad al-Shara (Abu Muhammad al-Jolani), plans to visit the United States in September this year. According to Syrian media reports, in addition to meeting with US officials, Ahmad al-Shara will attend the annual United Nations General Assembly and deliver a speech. This will be the first time a Syrian official will have spoken at the UN in 60 years.
