Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin group carried out several attacks in the Sahel region
Militants attacked a military unit in the town of Kumbri in Yatenge province of Burkina Faso. According to preliminary data, more than 40 soldiers and eight fighters from the pro-government militia “Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland” were killed in the clash. Terrorists also attacked security forces' positions in the provinces of Namengha, Sanmatenga, and Poni. There is no information on casualties yet. The attackers seized weapons and fled.
In Mali, jihadists attacked a military unit in the town of Boulekeissi in the Mopti region. More than 50 soldiers were killed in the fighting, dozens were wounded, and several soldiers, including the unit commander, were taken captive. The attackers seized a large quantity of weapons. Propagandists for the group claim that Wagner PMC fighters were among the victims of the attack, but this information has not been confirmed.
In the Timbuktu region, terrorists fired on the airport and attacked the administrative capital. The attack began with a suicide bomber detonating a car bomb, after which militants entered the city.
