Puntland army carries out operation against IS

The Puntland Ministry of Defense reported on the progress of the operation against the Islamic State. According to the defense agency, the military captured one of the last major IS strongholds in the province of Bari. During the clashes and US airstrikes, 35 jihadists were killed. Most of them were foreigners. In addition, the military destroyed defensive structures, shelters, and caches of weapons and ammunition. The armed forces of the Autonomous Region of Puntland noted that US airstrikes played a key role in defeating the jihadists. Since February 2025, the US Africa Command has carried out 21 strikes on ISIL targets in Somalia.
