High-ranking Al-Shabaab commander eliminated by Somali military
On the morning of August 10, the Somali National Army (SNA) eliminated high-ranking Al-Shabaab commander Kabdullahi Abuukaara Kali.
The planned operation was carried out in the Bakul region, 30 km from the city of Huddur, the administrative center of the region.
As a result, a whole cell of militants was destroyed.
According to the publication, Kabdullahi Abuukaara Kali was one of the most influential members of the group in the region. Recently, he held the position of financial director of Al-Shabaab in Bakule. He was also responsible for recruiting children into the militant group.
Earlier in August, the Somali Armed Forces, together with the Ugandan army, as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), took control of the strategically important town of Bariire in the Lower Shabelle region. The town had long been used by militants as a key foothold for preparing operations.
Somalia has suffered from insecurity for many years, with the main threats emanating from the terrorist groups Al-Shabaab and Islamic State. Since 2007, Al-Shabaab has been fighting the Somali government and African Union peacekeepers in the country.
