Teenager detained in Montreal on suspicion of links to ISIS
August 21. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested a Montreal resident on terrorism charges. According to investigators, he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and planned to commit at least one attack.
On Wednesday, police said they arrested a teenager in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood and searched his apartment. Authorities did not release the minor's name or age.
The investigation was launched in April after it was discovered that the teenager intended to purchase an AK-47 assault rifle for the attack.
“He left comments on social media stating that he wanted to attack various groups of people,” police said.
The defendant is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Thursday on three charges: providing property or services for terrorist purposes; participating in the activities of a terrorist group; and aiding terrorist activities.
