Pakistan detains 23 suspects in connection with Peshawar bombing

Pakistani authorities have detained 23 people, including police officers, on suspicion of involvement in the explosion at a mosque in Peshawar city. This was reported by the France-Presse agency, citing law enforcement sources.

 

“We also detained police officers as part of an investigation into how explosives could get inside the protected area,” the agency's source said. Among the 23 arrested are both residents of Peshawar and people fr om zones on the border with Afghanistan.

 

At the moment, law enforcement agencies are focused on establishing how the attacker entered the area of the mosque, which is located in a specially protected part of the city, wh ere the police mainly live.

 

The Peshawar attack took place on Monday. A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device during midday prayers at the mosque. As a result, 101 people died, and about 200 were injured. The vast majority of the victims are police officers. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, a group banned in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack.
