Pakistani PM calls for national unity after deadly terrorist attack in Peshawar

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday called for national unity to fight the threat of terrorism. His appeal came after a recent suicide bombing in the city of Peshawar in north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

When chairing a meeting of the Apex Committee meeting in Peshawar, convened after the attack on a mosque in the city that killed over 100 people, Prime Minister said that all the stakeholders should work together against terrorism.

“It is necessary that the provinces and the center, together with the leaders of political parties, take responsibility and avoid disagreements... We must unite and fight against this [terrorism]," the Prime Minister said.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recently witnessed a new surge of terrorist attacks and therefore needs to build the capacity of its security services, he said, adding that the province's counter-terrorism police department will be given all the support possible to strengthen its counter-terrorism capabilities.
