More than 1,500 people convicted of terrorism and extremism in Russia in 2022

In 2022, Russian courts issued sentences against more than 1,500 people on cases of terrorism and extremism. Chairman of the Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev stated this at the meeting of chairmen of republican, regional, district, arbitration and military courts that was held to consider performance of the Russian judicial system in 2022. The President of Russia participated in the meeting.

 

“In 2022, 875 people were sentenced for terrorist crimes and 693 – for extremist ones,” Lebedev said.

 

In 2021, 682 people were convicted for terrorist crimes, and 606 were sentenced for extremist crimes.
