A resident of the Chelyabinsk region was sentenced to 18 years for recruiting inmates to become terrorists

The district military court of the city of Yekaterinburg in Russia found a resident of the Chelyabinsk region guilty. While serving a sentence in a colony, the defendant was persuading prisoners to join a terrorist organization. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison, the press service of the FSB department of Russia for the Chelyabinsk region told TASS on Monday.

 

According to the investigation, the man was serving sentence in prison for torturing minors and raping a minor. In 2021, he was persuading other prisoners to move to the Syrian Arab Republic after their release, in order to join Islamic State foreign terrorist organization, banned in Russia by a decision of the Supreme Court.
