Islamic State claims responsibility for attack in Afghanistan
The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for Saturday's explosion in the Balkh province of Afghanistan, which killed at least one person and injured eight more.
The March 11 bombing took place at a cultural center in Mazar-i-Sharif during a press event two days after a suicide bomber killed Balkh provincial governor Mohammad Dawood Musammil in Mazar-i-Sharif, which was also claimed by IS.
“The purpose of the bombing was the event that took place inside a Shia center to reward several journalists working in agencies that are involved in the war and incitement against IS,” as IS described the causes of the explosion (quoted by AFP). According to police, the blast killed a security guard and injured five journalists and three children.
