Sayfullo Saipov To Be Sentenced To Life In Prison For Truck Attack on Halloween 2017

The prosecutor's office demanded death penalty for Saipov, but it can only be handed out in case a unanimous decision by the jury, which was not achieved.

The convict moved to the US in 2010. On October 31, 2017, he rented a small truck and drove it into a bike path. Among the eight killed was a group of five friends who had travelled from Argentina, and 12 more people were injured. Saipov was stopped by the police, who shot him in the stomach.

Saipov claimed to have acted on behalf of the Islamic State group which called him one of their “soldiers.”
