Kabul rejects Washington's claim over alleged IS strengthening in Afghanistan

The Afghan interim government has dismissed Washington's allegations of an increased presence of Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Afghanistan as completely false.

“The statements of US officials about the number of ISIS in Afghanistan are not true,” chief spokesman for the Afghan Interim Administration Zabiullah Mujahid tweeted.

According to media reports, the head of the US Central Command General Michael Kurilla announced that “IS has strengthened its positions in Afghanistan.” He warned that within the next six months, IS could launch attacks that will pose a threat to the interests of the United States and its allies.

Zabiullah Mujahid pointed out in his Twitter: "The interest of the US officials in this matter and their grandiosity is aiding and abetting the ISIS insurgents, which should be stopped."

Over the past week, Afghan security forces eliminated four armed IS fighters in two operations in the suburbs of Kabul.
