Patrushev pointed out that the situation in Afghanistan is turning into a protracted crisis

Not only the situation in Afghanistan remains difficult, but it is also turning into a protracted crisis. This was stated by Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev during a meeting with colleagues from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in New Delhi.

“It is necessary to pay particular attention to the situation in Afghanistan which remains difficult a year and a half after the Taliban takeover and takes on the character of a protracted crisis,” he stated.

Patrushev drew attention to the fact that significant challenges and threats to the security of the SCO states emanate from the territory of Afghanistan. These include, in particular, terrorism, illicit trafficking in weapons and drugs, illegal migration, as well as the spreading of extremist ideology, he warned.
