A foreigner detained for financing terrorism in Vladimir region of Russia

The FSB department for the Vladimir region thwarted the activities of a foreign citizen involved in terrorism financing.

According to the FSB, this was a native and citizen of one of the Central Asian republics, born in 2001, and a supporter of Islamic State foreign terrorist organization (FTO) banned in Russia.

The investigation believes that a foreigner made contact on the Internet with a member of the FTO, participating in terrorist activities in the Syrian Arab Republic, and transferred money to him to purchase firearms. The man was arrested and confessed.

"Based on the results of the operational and investigative activities of the investigative department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Vladimir region, a criminal case was initiated against the above-mentioned foreigner in March 2023. The detainee was taken into custody and placed in a pre-trial detention center," the regional department of the FSB indicated.
