A court in Irkutsk sentenced a man to 11 years in prison for promoting terrorism

The First Eastern District Military Court sentenced a man to 11 years in prison in a case of aiding terrorism. This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Irkutsk region.

According to the press service of the Investigative Department of the regional Investigative Committee, the man recruited his acquaintances to join the ranks of the terrorist group and agitated them to move with him to Dagestan, and then to Syria. In addition, in 2019, the defendant, already convicted of participating in an illegal armed organisation, was publicly justifying terrorism via the Internet and urged to commit terrorist attacks.

His criminal activities were uncovered in June 2022 by staff members of the FSB department, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Investigative Committee.
