The State Duma announces the toughening of punishments for terrorism

“In the near future”, Russian State Duma members will propose amendments to the legislation to toughen punishment for terrorism related crimes. Head of the State Duma security committee Vasily Piskarev said this on his Telegram channel.

According to him, it is planned to toughen the punishment under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation:

- Article 205 (“Terrorist attack”);

- Article 205.1 (“Assistance to terrorist activities”);

- Article 205.2 (“Public calls to carry out terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism”) and other articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provide for punishment for terrorist activities.

“And, most importantly, we will propose to expand the list of crimes punished by life imprisonment,” Vasily Piskarev stressed.
