State Duma reported an increase in the number of terrorist crimes in Russia
As early as September 1, 2023, Order No. 208 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia “On Amendments to the Federal State Standards of Higher Education” comes into force. The document outlines universal competencies aimed at developing a zero tolerance towards extremism, terrorism and corruption among young people.
The head of the Chairman of the Committee on Security and Corruption Control Vasily Piskarev told Izvestia about the growing number of terrorist crimes in Russia.
According to him, the security services, whose work is coordinated by the Antiterrorist Committee, have learned how to effectively identify terrorist cells and thwart their activities. However, statistics show that the number of terrorist crimes in the country is growing, the MP added.
“In 2016, 1,450 such crimes were registered, and from year to year, with some temporary decreases, this number is growing. In 2021 there were 2,136 crimes, in 2022 there were as many as 2,233 crimes. This trend indicates that the existing punishment does not deter potential terrorists, and the damage to the country and people is great. I consider the current punishment disproportionate to the gravity of the crime committed,” Piskarev said.
