A migrant charged with financing terrorism in St. Petersburg

A criminal case on complicity in the financing of terrorism was launched in St. Petersburg. The defendant was a 21-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, according to the Main Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of Russia for St. Petersburg.

 

According to the investigation, in December 2021 in St. Petersburg, he began to correspond with a member of a foreign terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation through social media. The FTO member offered the suspect to help raise funds for this illegal group using the bank card details provided.

 

The suspect agreed, opened a bank account in his name and shared his details. Later, this account was used to raise money for the needs of members of the terrorist organization based in Syria. The suspect repeatedly sent codes to the accomplice to confirm financial transactions.
