Taliban kill mastermind of 2021 Kabul airport bombing
The Taliban eliminated the mastermind of 2021 Kabul airport bombing that killed 13 US troops and 170 Afghans, US media reported.
According to the Associated Press, the leader of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) was killed by the Taliban in southern Afghanistan in early April during a series of military operations against the terrorist group.
In turn, CNN quoted the representative of the US National Security Council John Kirby who called the eliminated person “the mastermind of the terrible attack” that was carried out in the last days of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. He did not indicate when the Taliban killed the ISKP senior leader, calling the event one of a “series of high-profile leadership losses” that the ISKP has suffered this year.
In August 2021, during the evacuation of the US troops from Afghanistan, a terrorist attack took place near the Kabul airport. About 200 people were killed, including the US troops, members of the Taliban and civilians. The ISKP claimed responsibility for the explosions.
