Former college student in Altai sentenced to 11 years in prison for promoting terrorism

The court found a former international student of a Barnaul college guilty of promoting terrorism and recruiting members for a foreign terrorist organization and sentenced him to 11 years in prison, the press service of the Federal Security Service for the Altai Territory told TASS.

 

“It has been established that since the end of 2021, a former student of one of the colleges in the city of Barnaul, an adherent of the ideology of foreign terrorist organizations banned in Russia, <...> for a long time had been trying to recruit his acquaintance to take part in the activities of a foreign terrorist organization,” the statement says.

 

As established by the court and the investigation, during conversations with the acquaintance,  the defendant justified the violent and destructive methods of banned organizations, imposed radical ideas and demonstrated videos that were claiming that joining the terrorists was the necessary thing to do. During these meetings, the foreigner also insisted on the opportunity to establish in one’s faith by dying in the fight against “enemies.”
