IS members detained: all are Georgian citizens

Six Islamic State members have been detained in Georgia. According to the State Security Service, the counter-terrorist operation was carried out simultaneously in four places.

All of the detainees are citizens of Georgia. They had connections with one of the influential IS leaders, and under his leadership they planned various terrorist attacks in a number of countries.

Law enforcement officers seized electronic media, ammunition, explosives, etc. from the detainees.

“As part of this investigation, the Counter-Terrorism Center, based on the evidence obtained, revealed certain terrorist activities in various foreign countries. Taking into account the risk level, the information was promptly communicated to the partner states. It should be noted that within the same case, a criminal case was initiated against one foreign citizen  who was placed in the Temporary Accommodation Center of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs following the order of the court,” the State Security Service said in a statement.
