G7 leaders urge Taliban to fulfill commitments to combat terrorism

The G7 leaders called on the Taliban to fulfill their obligations to counter terrorism. This was stated in the final statement of the G7 Summit.

“We call on the Taliban to fulfill their obligations to combat terrorism and create conditions so that the territory of Afghanistan cannot be used to threaten or attack any other country, to plan or finance terrorist acts, to provide shelter or training of terrorists,” the document states.

“We note with grave concern increased threats to stability in Afghanistan and the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation, the statement says. - We strongly oppose the Taliban’s systematic violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and demand the immediate reversal of unacceptable decisions, especially those impacting women and girls. We advocate for the full, equal, and meaningful participation of all Afghan citizens in every sphere of public life, as well as access to humanitarian aid and essential services. We call on the Taliban to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2681 of 2023, including paragraph 8, and to ensure unimpeded UN operations in Afghanistan.”

The G7 also urged the Taliban to take significant steps to engage in credible and inclusive national dialogue, in which all Afghans can have a voice.
