The court sentenced a Sevastopol resident to 18 years in prison for participation in Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami

The Southern Military District Court of Sevastopol sentenced a resident of the city who established a Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami cell (terrorist organization banned in Russia). This was reported by the press service of the FSB department for Crimea and Sevastopol.

According to the law enforcement, the defendant created a cell of the terrorist organization in Sevastopol in 2015. He was setting the goals and objectives of the cell, organized and held secret meetings of its members to study the ideology of this terrorist organization and spread terrorist narratives among the population. The FSB also reported that the defendant carried out covert anti-constitutional activities.

The illegal activity of the man was thwarted in February 2022. The cases against him were investigated under Article 205.5 (Organization of a Terrorist Community) and Article 30, 278 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Preparation for a Violent Seizure of Power).
