Lebanese intelligence detains one of the prominent Al-Qaeda members

Lebanese intelligence detained one of the prominent leaders of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda and the founder of its cells in Lybia in the northern city of Deir Ammar, RIA Novosti reported.

“The detainee had close ties to the leaders of the organization, then disappeared from radar in 2007, only to reappear to play a significant role after the emergence of ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra”, Lebanese army stated to the media.

“The terrorist has become associated with terrorist groups operating in northern Lebanon. He provided shelter to one of their most feared terrorists during clashes between the army and terrorist groups from Tripoli in northern Lebanon in 2014,” the Lebanese military said.
