The Southern District Military Court sentenced four members of the Crimean Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), to 12 to 17 years in a strict regime colony, a court spokesperson told reporters.
The court found that Dzhebbar Bekirov organized the activities of a cell of the terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami in Crimea in 2019. The cell comprised Zavur Abdullayev, Rustem Murasov and Rustem Tairov. Bekirov supervised the activities of the cell, arranged secret meetings to study the narratives of the organization was studied, selected materials for these and recruited new members. Abdullayev, Murasov and Tairov, according to the court, participated in these meetings.
In addition, from January to June 2019, the defendants tried to recruit another person to join the terrorist organization and stored ideological materials at home.
Criminal cases were initiated under articles related to supporting a terrorist organization and participating in it, as well as an attempt to seize power by force.
“Based on the court's verdict, the defendants were found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony for a period of 17 years for Bekirov, 12 years for Abdullayev, Murasov and Tairov each,” the court representative said.
