Syrian Kurds to hold ISIS terrorists trial in Kobane

Syrian Kurds intend to hold a trial of members of the "Islamic State" (IS) terrorist group who were involved in the massacres of civilians. This was stated by Bedran  Kurd, the head of the external relations department of the Kurdish Autonomous Administration to the Al Hadath TV channel.

"The Tribunal will start the work in Kobane city, where the Kurdish forces won their first victory against IS gangs in 2014", he said. According to the politician, after the final defeat of the ISIS in 2019 in El-Baguz, 10,000 detainees are kept in prisons and special camps under the control of the Kurdish Forces of Democratic Syria.

“The greatest danger is presented by 2,000 foreign mercenaries from 60 states who fought in support of ISIS”, he said. “Over the past years, we have been negotiating their repatriation, including with the UK, Canada and France, proposed establishing a special international tribunal, but these efforts did not succeed.”

Bedran Kurd noted that they are counting on the assistance of human rights organizations during the trial. “We believe that the tribunal is necessary first of all to restore justice for the victims of terrorists,” he said, noting that the death penalty is prohibited in FDS-controlled areas.
