Mirziyoyev named the only way to resolve the Afghan crisis
On July 4, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
“There is another important issue on our agenda, namely, the continuing difficult situation in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, the problem of this country and the tragedy of the Afghan people have receded into the background of the international agenda. All the steps taken recently at the international level failed to provide the expected result. This is evidenced by the deteriorating social situation of the population of Afghanistan. At the same time, the volume of humanitarian aid provided has noticeably decreased,” the head of state said.
Mirziyoyev stressed that a way out can only be found by establishing a constructive dialogue with the Afghan authorities at the UN site.
“A lot depends on the political will of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization states, which are Afghanistan's immediate neighbors and are most interested in finding a long-term political solution,” he said.
The President also stated the expediency of resuming joint work and consultations in the format of the SCO-Afghanistan contact group.
