Russian FSB detained three accomplices of Syrian terrorists in St. Petersburg, Bashkiria and Ingushetia

As a result of a special operation, the FSB detained three accomplices of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham foreign terrorist organization operating in Syria (banned in Russia) in St. Petersburg, Bashkortostan and Ingushetia.

As the RG correspondent was told at the FSB Public Relations Center, it was found out that the detainees, sharing the ideology of the terrorists and following their instructions, regularly transferred money to them to buy weapons, vehicles and equipment. In addition, they called on Muslims living in Russia through instant messengers and social media urging them to engage in extremist activities and support Syrian militants.

During the searches, FSB staff seized phones, credit cards, as well as documents confirming the suspects’ connection with the emissaries of the banned group. As FSB Public Relations Center noted, the FSB investigative units have launched and are investigating criminal cases under Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Assistance to Terrorist Activities” and Article 280 “Public Calls for Extremist Activities.”
