A new meeting on the Afghan peace settlement in the Moscow format will be held at the end of September in Kazan, Russia. This was stated to TASS by Russian Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asia Department Zamir Kabulov.
Zamir Kabulov also said that the Taliban “accepted the invitation.” According to him, all members of the Moscow format will take part in the meeting. The Moscow format on Afghanistan includes Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The previous meeting of the Moscow format on Afghanistan was held in November last year.
The Taliban launched a large-scale operation to establish control over Afghanistan after the United States announded in the spring of 2021 the decision to withdraw its troops. On August 15 of the same year, the radicals entered Kabul without a fight, and on September 7 they announced the establishment of the interim government, the legitimacy of which has not yet been recognized by any country.
