The United States increased the number of its troops at Syrian bases from 500 to 1.5 thousand
The US command transferred additional military equipment and logistics from Iraq to its Syrian bases on Sunday. This was reported by Al Watan Syrian newspaper, citing sources in the opposition groups. According to them, several military transport convoys crossed El-Walid border checkpoint and entered Hasakeh governorate.
Together with armored vehicles, a large group of American military personnel was transported to Syria. According to the newspaper, since July 15, their number has increased from 500 to 1.5 thousand people. Part of the military and technical personnel is assisting in the training of Kurdish fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces, while others are guarding airfields and oil and gas fields in Hasakeh and the neighboring Deir ez-Zor governorate.
Most of the border areas with Iraq in northeastern Syria are currently controlled by the Kurds. Since 2015, the US command has established nine military bases there.
Under former US President Donald Trump, the number of troops in Syria has been reduced to 500. Now, under the pretext of fighting the IS terrorists that became more active, the American command is increasing its military presence in Syria again.
