US representatives to meet with Taliban

US officials will meet with the Taliban and “professional technocrats” from key Afghan ministries in Doha, the US State Department stated. The department discusses issues of security, drugs and women's rights.

Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West and Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights Rina Amiri will travel not only to the Qatari capital, but also to Kazakhstan.

Last year, representatives of the US State Department and Treasury also met with representatives of the Taliban and discussed ways to address humanitarian issues in Afghanistan. The meeting took place on July 27 in Tashkent. Such events are rare; the Taliban movement, which came to power in August 2021, is actually in international isolation.
