Сourt sentenced a banned group member for preparing a terrorist attack in Karachay-Cherkessia
The Southern District Military Court prosecuted Dmitry Igumentsev, a member of the cell of the banned extremist association At-Takfir wal-Hijra.
The court established that Dmitry Igumentsev joined Takfir wal-Hijra and held meetings of members of this proscribed organization in Karachay-Cherkessia. He arranged for study of extremist literature and worked on disseminating radical religious narratives. He was also plotting a terrorist attack, for which he bought explosives, weapons and ammunition.
The attack did not materialise. In February 2021, Igumentsev was detained by security forces. The court found the man guilty under Articles 282.2 (Organizing the Activities of an Extremist Organization), 222 (Illegal Acquisition, Possession of Firearms, Ammunition), 222.1, 30, 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Terrorist Attack) and sentenced him to 15 years in a strict regime colony.
