Uzbekistani man sent to prison for trying to join terrorists in Syria

In Uzbekistan, a resident of the Andijan region, who repeatedly tried to join terrorist groups in Syria, was jailed for eight years, Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.

 

While working in Turkey in 2021-2022, the 30-year-old men fell under the influence of recruiters of a terrorist organization. Eventually, he planned to cross the border into Syria to join the militant groups.

 

The Uzbek several times tried to cross the border, but failed. During the last attempt, he was detained by Turkish border guards and deported to Uzbekistan.

 

According to the verdict of the Andijan City Criminal Court, the man was found guilty under Articles 155-2 (Training, Leaving or Moving for the Purpose of Carrying out Terrorist Activities) and 244-2 (Creating, Directing, Participating in Religious Extremist, Separatist, Fundamentalist or Other Prohibited Organizations) of the Criminal Code.
