The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Afghanistan says they would not issue passports to criminals and debtors
The Interior Ministry in Afghanistan's interim government established by the radical Taliban will not issue passports to criminals and individuals subject to restrictions because of debt liabilities. This was announced by the Taliban Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Matin Qani.
On his Twitter, he shared information about the categories of Afghan citizens the authorities will deny passports. “Persons against whom the relevant authorities have imposed a ban [on the issuance of a passport] due to non-fulfillment of debt or other obligations,” Qani wrote. “Also, individuals convicted by the court in criminal, civil and economic cases,” added a spokesman for the Taliban Interior Ministry. Besides, Afghans who are prohibited from traveling abroad will not be able to get a passport.
Qani did not specify whether these categories of Afghans would have their valid passports revoked after the imposition of restrictions, or whether the measures only relate to the issuance of new documents. He also did not indicate whether these individuals would be able to obtain a passport after paying off debts or, for example, being released from a correctional facility.
