Shooter who killed 11 people in synagogue sentenced to death in US
The shooter who killed 11 people in a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018 was sentenced to death. It is reported by CNN.
According to the news channel, this is the first federal death penalty imposed under the Biden administration, which has put a moratorium on executions. The decision to sentence Robert Bowers, who shot believers with a rifle, had to be unanimous, otherwise he would have been sentenced to life in prison without the right to parole.
On October 27, 2018, Bowers broke into the Tree of Life synagogue during a Shabbat service and opened fire on people. Those killed include a 97-year-old woman and a couple married at this synagogue more than 60 years earlier. Of the six wounded survivors, four were police officers who responded to the scene. According to CBS Pittsburgh (KDKA) sources, during the shooting the man kept shouting that “all Jews must die.”
Bowers pleaded not guilty to the shooting on all counts, including a hate and intolerance crime.
