Syrian artillery retaliated by striking the al-Nahiya districs in the west of Idlib governorate, from wh ere the attack was launched.

Earlier, in response to repeated violations of the ceasefire by the enemy which operates in the northern de-escalation zone, government forces attacked militant sites in the Sahl al-Ghab valley in Hama governorate. The command posts of the militants and  their fortifications in Kensarf and Sufuhun, as well as rear bases in the Jebel al-Zawiya mountain range in Idlib governorate, were hit.

A large part of Idlib, which remains under the control of illegal armed groups, serves as a springboard for attacks on areas under the protection of government forces. In 2017, a de-escalation zone was created in the northwest of the country, wh ere militants who refused to lay down their arms in Eastern Ghouta near Damascus and the southern regions of the country moved.
