Taliban: We fought for freedom, and now we have a jihad for Sharia

The Taliban fought for the freedom of Afghanistan, but now they are fighting for the observance of Sharia and the development of the country. The Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA, the self-name of the country among the Taliban) Sirajuddin Haqqani stated this, reports Ariana News.

The statement was made at a meeting with officials, scholars and tribal elders in Laghman:

“In the past, we waged jihad in the name of Allah in order to liberate the Motherland. Today we are committing jihad for the observance of Sharia, the strengthening and survival of our system and the development of the country. We won't back down.”

At the same time, Haqqani asked the security forces to be gentle, treat people well and refrain from arbitrary actions.

“Today is the time for compassion and management. Our diligence lies in humility and good behavior,” Haqqani said.

He stressed that those who did not join the Taliban's 20-year struggle also remain “their brothers.”

“We appreciate them. We use human resources. We give them the opportunity to serve,” Haqqani said.
