Syrian troops conduct an operation against terrorists in Deir ez-Zor governorate

The command of the Syrian Armed Forces sent special forces to Deir ez-Zor governorate to conduct an anti-terrorist operation against Islamic State militants. This was reported by Al Hadath TV channel. 

As reported by “Armenpress” with reference to TASS, according to the TV channel, the army is supported by pro-Iranian groups consisting of Shiite militias, who arrived fr om the Bu-Kemal region. Syrian Air Force helicopters are involved in the pursuit of terrorists.

The operation is being carried out in the desert of Badia ash-Sharqiya, wh ere IS gangs operate. Earlier, in the vicinity of the city of El Meyadin, a bus carrying military personnel was ambushed by terrorists. In the gunfight, 23 soldiers were killed and ten more were injured. According to eyewitnesses, the militants captured a group of soldiers and took them with them into the desert.

Since the beginning of 2023, IS gangs have carried out more than 40 armed attacks in the province of Deir ez-Zor, according to Al Hadath. The victims of their attacks were 67 Syrian servicemen and 16 civilians.
