Tajikistan introduces new outposts on the border with Afghanistan
New border outposts started working in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) and Khatlon regions of Tajikistan on the border with Afghanistan. Press service of the President of the Republic Emomali Rahmon reported this.
According to the press service, Rahmon is on a working trip to GBAO and personally visited a new outpost in the Darvaz region. “Emomali Rahmon opened the Kalai-Khumb border outpost in the Darvaz region of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region,” the statement says.
According to the press service, the head of state also opened frontier posts in the Murgab, Ishkashim and Rushan districts of GBAO, as well as in the Farkhor, Shamsiddin Shokhin and Pyanj districts of the Khatlon region via a video conference call. All these areas border on Afghanistan ruled by the radical Taliban movement whose government has not been recognized by any country. It is noted that all outposts were built in a short time by the national government and provided with necessary equipment.
In May 2023, Rahmon stated that in order to improve security of the state border, the construction of 53 facilities was underway, scheduled to be finalised in the fall of 2023, and 15 more outposts high in the mountains will also be fully prepared.
