Iranian mausoleum shooter trained in IS camp in Afghanistan
The Tajik citizen who attacked the Shah Cheragh mausoleum in the city of Shiraz in southwestern Iran underwent three months of training in the camp of the Islamic State. This was reported by Tasnim agency, citing sources.
According to them, Rakhmatulla Nuruzov was recruited by terrorists through online correspondence. After that he went to Turkey and officially joined the proscribed group. After that, Nuruzov was sent to Afghanistan, where he was training for three months in a special camp for ISIS extremists. After completing his prepatation, he entered Iran and committed a terrorist attack in the Shah-Cheragh mausoleum.
The special services of the Islamic Republic are trying to find out exactly how the terrorists infiltrate into Iran. The security forces say it is possible that a network of undercover cells operates in the country, helping the radicals to freely penetrate into Iran.
At the same time, the ISNA agency claims that Nuruzov planned to commit a terrorist attack in Shiraz during Ashura - religious mourning for Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who died in the seventh century (this year the dates of mourning were from July 19 - July 28). However, the extremist was forced to adjust his plans and decided to attack the visitors of the mausoleum during prayer.
On August 13, the Iranian agency IRNA reported that a terrorist attack had taken place in the Shah Cheragh mausoleum in the city of Shiraz in Fars province. According to Tasnim, two militants tried to enter the mosque. One of them opened fire with a machine gun at the people in the mausoleum and was detained by security forces shortly after the attack. According to the latest data, one person was killed and eight others were injured as a result of the attack.
