South Korea extradites man accused of terrorism financing to Russia
South Korea has extradited a person accused of financing terrorism to Russia. This was reported to TASS by the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.
“Shakirzhon Ulpidzhanov was deported from the Republic of Korea, accompanied by employees of the NCB of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. He is accused of financing terrorism,” Volk said.
Shakirzhon Ulpidzhanov is charged under Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Assistance to Terrorist Activities). The criminal case was initiated in January this year.
It was tentatively established that the criminal act was committed in South Korea. “The defendant deliberately provided money to a member of the Islamic State (foreign terrorist organization banned in Russia), and later this money was spent on the purchase of firearms.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in March Shakirzhon Ulpidzhanov was detained in the Republic of Korea. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation instructed the NCB Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia to arrange for the deportation of the wanted person. “Today he was handed over to representatives of the Russian police for delivery to Moscow,” Volk said.
