Peshmerga and Iraqi army conduct operation against ISIS in Iraqi Kirkuk province
Peshmerga forces of Iraqi Kurdistan jointly with the Iraqi army conducted an operation against the remaining Islamic State militants on August 20 in the districts of the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk.
The joint operation was carried out by the 22nd Infantry Brigade of the Peshmerga Ministry and the 31st Brigade of the 8th Division of the Iraqi Army in the Qara Hassan (Laylan) subdistrict.
The operation which continued for seven hours was aimed at eliminating potential threats and thwarting any activities associated with the Islamic State. The military examined the villages of Javal Bar, Cham Zangana, Qishlahi Qon, Hidr Bag and the adjacent border area.
In 2017, ISIS lost control of all territories in Iraq. Despite this, the group still poses a significant threat to both the security forces and the civilian population in most parts of the country.
Last Thursday, Iraqi security forces reported the capture of six ISIS terrorists.
