Uzbek citizen detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of financing a terrorist organization
A 22-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan was detained in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is suspected of financing a terrorist organization. According to investigators, he transferred 12,000 roubles to the members of Khatiba al-Tawhid wal-Jihad (banned in Russia).
The detainee contacted a preacher of radical Islam named Yusuf in a messenger and after that he started to financially support the organization.
Russian security officials consider the Khatiba al-Tawhid wal-Jihad group responsible for the terrorist attack in the St. Petersburg metro on April 3, 2017. The Russian authorities said that the suicide bomber Akbarjon Jalilov and the alleged customer Sirojiddin Mukhtarov were members of the Khatiba al-Tawhid wal-Jihad group.
