12 militants eliminated in battles with Pakistani soldiers on the border with Afghanistan

At least 12 militants belonging to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (Taliban Movement of Pakistan, TTP) radical group were killed in battles with Pakistani troops in the high-mountainous Chitral Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on the border with Afghanistan.

The Express Tribune reported that the fighting took place after a large force of militants equipped with sophisticated weapons captured two villages in the Pakistani border region and attacked military checkpoints. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistani Ministry of Defense, all extremist attacks were repelled. Losses among Pakistani troops amounted to four people.

The infiltration of TTP militants into Pakistani territory in Chitral district took place for the first time since the Taliban takeover in August 2021. According to Pakistani intelligence, in the Afghan border provinces of Nuristan and Kunar, TTP forces are now concentrating for new incursions into Pakistani territory.

The TTP is considered a Pakistani cell of the Taliban, which the Taliban themselves categorically deny. Pakistan demands from Afghanistan the speedy and complete neutralization of the TTP militants based in this country, which is provided for in the Doha Agreement signed in February 2020 to restore peace in Afghanistan.
